Regular cleaning and disinfection of your water tank farm are crucial. You need to clean your reverse osmosis system once you install it in your home. Reverse osmosis (RO) systems are great for providing high-quality water for drinking, cooking, or running to the ice machine.

RO systems require routine maintenance to ensure that the system removes dissolved particles and water quality remains excellent.

Remember that the cleaning process should repeat every six months, as indicated in the manufacturer’s instructions. This type of system has several steps to maintain.

Be sure to follow the cleaning instructions carefully, as they may vary depending on the type of system you have in your home.

How To Sanitize Reverse Osmosis System?

It is not always necessary to clean and disinfect a reverse osmosis system. However, the whole process is neither overly tricky nor time-consuming, so we urge you to do so to be careful.  

1. Turn off the cold water supply line of the RO system.
2. Since, If your system connects to a refrigerator or ice maker, disconnect the ice machine line.
3. Drain all the water from the system and storage tank by opening the faucet of the RO water system.
4. Let suppose, If the system is empty, ensure that the HANDLE OF THE RO faucet is off.
5. Remove the prefilter housing from the feed water pipe, usually the filter closest to it. After the cleanup process, remove the prefilter and discard it if you replace a filter. Remove the filter housing and set it aside.
6. Perhaps, Discard all remaining filters and the reverse osmosis unit (membrane). Leave the old filter in place if your RO filter system has an online email filter. When replacing the filters, discard the old ones.
7. However, reconnect all empty enclosures to the system except for the prefilter enclosure. At present, there should be no filters in any home.
8. Fill the prefilter housing with the entire system disinfectant pack. Alternatively, you can fill the prefilter case with two or three tablespoons of bleach (5.5% unscented bleach).
9. Place the disinfectant solution in the prefilter housing and reconnect it to the system.
10. Turn on the cold water supply line so that the disinfectant solution can fill the system.
11. Please make sure there are no leaks.
12. But let the water fill the system. Depending on the water pressure, the weather varies. However, without a filter or membrane, the system should be full in 5-10 minutes.
13. Open the RO faucet until the water starts flowing, and then turn it off. Wait at least 60 seconds for the system’s disinfectant to work. Leave on for at least 30 minutes for the bleach to take effect.
14. Once the time is up, rinse the system by turning on the RO faucet and passing water through for 5 minutes.
15. Turn off the cold water tap. Turn on the RO faucet. Empty the entire system. You should repeat this process twice. Replace or install all filters and membranes after the system has been completely emptied for the second time.
16. Furthermore, Check for leaks by turning on the cold water supply line. Wait several hours for the RO membrane to fill the storage tank in the system.

Why Purging Reverse Osmosis For 24 Hours?
